Comfortable Routine Dental Cleanings

In order to keep your teeth and gums healthy, it's important to receive regular dental cleanings. At Storts Family Dentistry, we make sure our patients are as comfortable as possible. Here are a few things to expect the next time you come for a visit.

What to Expect During a Teeth Cleaning

Our friendly, experienced dental team will guide you through the cleaning process, which includes a few simple steps.

- Exam: A dentist or hygienist checks for potential concerns with teeth, jaws, or gums.

- Plaque and tartar removal: The dental hygienist uses a special tool called a scaler to remove buildup under the gums and between the teeth.

- Polishing: After your cleaning, your hygienist will use a gritty toothpaste on an electric brush to polish your teeth.

- Flossing and rinsing: Your teeth will be flossed to remove any debris, and you will be instructed to do a final rinse.

If you haven't received them within the past year, your dentist may recommend updated dental X-rays. Pediatric patients may also receive special fluoride treatments to help prevent cavities.

The Importance of Receiving Regular Dental Cleanings

Dental cleanings not only keep your teeth whiter and brighter, but they can also help prevent decay and disease. When patients receive a dental cleaning every six months, dentists can monitor any early signs of cavities, broken fillings or crowns, gum disease, and oral cancer and treat them immediately.

Storts Family Dentistry accepts most dental insurance plans, which typically cover regular cleanings. If you're in need of a dental cleaning, contact us online or call 580-223-6720 to make your appointment.
