Tooth loss affects many adults, and they often feel embarrassed about the appearance of their teeth, in addition to having trouble eating certain foods. At Storts Family Dentistry, we offer dental implants as a permanent solution for missing teeth.
What Are Dental Implants?
Until recently, missing teeth were often treated with partial dentures, or bridges, which tend to be noticeably different from the rest of your teeth. Today, the American Dental Association recommends dental implants, which offer a permanent result that looks and feels more natural. An implant is a metal replacement for the root of the missing tooth. It is inserted into the gums to provide a sturdy foundation for a crown, or false tooth, which is attached to the implant to fill the gap.
How Does the Dental Implant Process Work?
The entire process is completed over a few office visits. First, you will receive a full exam, including X-rays and dental impressions, to make sure your jaw contains enough bone to anchor the implant successfully. Then, we will administer local anesthesia, and one of our dentists will insert the implant. After you've healed up, the final step is attaching a custom-made crown to the implant.
For those who wish to secure loose dentures, fixed (permanent) or removable implants may be an option. Both have been shown to make it easier for patients to eat and speak while also providing increased comfort.
If tooth loss or denture concerns have left you struggling to feel confident with your smile, you may be a candidate for dental implants. The experienced dental team at Storts Family Dentistry can perform an evaluation to determine the best course of treatment.
